Parish Council
White Colne is a lovely village that thrives on community involvement, and volunteering plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for its residents. So what opportunities are there for individuals to give back to their community and make a positive impact.?
1. Stationmasters Café:
Every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month, from 9.00 am to12.30pm, the Stationmasters Café in the village hall becomes a bustling hub of activity. Volunteers are warmly welcomed to assist with setting up, serving food, clearing away, and managing payments. We have a carefully organizedrota, ensuring that volunteers only need to commit once every 6 weeks. This regular event serves as a place of connection for the community, making it an ideal place to contribute your time and energy.
2. Community Hub:
Hopefully opening again in November , 2024, the Communuty Hub offers vital services every Monday until Easter. It is here that volunteers play a crucial role, with 2 hour shifts running between 7.30 am to 3.30pm. Your involvement could entail setting up, welcoming visitors, maintaining the buffet, and helping with the post-event cleanup. The hub, free for all in the Colne Valley, is open from 9 am to 3pm pm. With a well-structured rota, volunteers can share the workload and even extend their presence beyond their designated time slots, enjoying the camaraderie that this community event fosters.
3. W0 Helpers Group:
The W0 Helpers Group is a friendly and informal gathering of community members who come together to organize events for the village. The significance of the name "W0" is a curiosity that can only be satisfied by joining the group and discovering it firsthand.! Meetings are casually arranged via a WhatsApp group, providing flexibility for busy schedules, and typically occur bi-monthly on weekday evenings in the village hall. It's an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and contribute your ideas to the community's social events.
4. Friends of White Colne Meadows:
For those who appreciate the beauty of nature and are keen on conservation efforts, the Friends of White Colne Meadows offer a wonderful opportunity. This informal group meets periodically throughout the year, often during weekends, to help maintain the idyllic White Colne Meadows. Families are not only welcomed but encouraged to join in the efforts. You can get involved by joining the WhatsApp group, which keeps you updated on upcoming activities. Connecting with nature and making a tangible impact on the local environment is a fulfilling way to volunteer.
5. Community Garden – Our latest Project :
Thanks to grant funding from the Essex Community Foundation the The Parish Council is in the process of completing a brand-new community garden at the front of the village hall. This garden is designed to cultivate fruits and vegetables, benefiting not only yourself and your family but also the wider community. If you're new to growing food, don't worry - your enthusiasm is all that's needed. Register your interest today and be at the forefront of this thrilling new project.
